Pumpkin Picking | My Top Tips and Tricks

On Sunday I went on my first ever pumpkin picking adventure and it was amazing! So today I wanted to share with you my top tips and tricks on how to find the perfect pumpkin for your autumnal lifestyle!

NUMBER ONE Always get a wheel barrow! You'd be surprised how flipping heavy some pumpkins are.

As your going round don't pick the first one you see, pick the best ones and then you can decide as you go which one's look the best.

Try to go on a good day! If it's raining then your heart won't be in it, and pumpkins have feelings too so they don't want to be flung around the place.

Wear warm clothing! You'd be surprised how chilly it gets and how long you can spend just walking and choosing.

Place the pumpkin on a flat surface to see if it leans or is level, discard if it leans, because your candle will tip over.

A second opinion is always a valued opinion, having at least two of you to choose your pumpkin will let you both see different things in the pumpkin.

Press your thumbs into the bottom of the pumpkin to check for freshness. If it pushes in, it is not fresh!

What's your top pumpkin picking tip?

5 Things I've Learnt This Week

5 Things I've Learnt This Week

“If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.” – Katharine Hepburn

1. Breaking the rules every now and then is good for the soul, it re-energises you.

2. Taking a selfie and posting it every so often (even if it's during drinks with your bestie) can really help to boost your self esteem.

3. Go out and spend the money, you can't take it with you when you die - the memories will last forever and a day.

4. Putting yourself out there when you meet new people will add to your confidence, if in doubt just pretend to be confident.

5. And, going out and doing things in the evening does help to beat your anxiety - push the limits.

Gooey Chocolate Flapjack Bites | Recipe

Monday, 2 October 2017

Gooey Chocolate Flapjack Bites |  Recipe

I've really been enjoying whole foods even more so recently and making EVERYTHING from scratch. So today I wanted to share a recipe I found on Deliciously Ella, and bearing in mind my flapjacks where all measured on guess work due to not having a set of scales. These flapjacks are full proof and still taste amazing!!

BASE

180g granola, 1 1/2 cups
50g desiccated coconut, 1/2 cup
170g honey or rice syrup, 1/2 cup
250g peanut butter, 1 cup
Pinch of salt

(I added a mixture of seeds into mine too!)

Start by making your base; mix the granola, coconut, peanut butter and salt in a large mixing bowl. Place your honey in a pan and bring to the boil, when boiling pour over the granola mix and stir well. Push the mixture down into a lined baking tray and set aside in the fridge to cool for 1-2 hours.

TOPPING

250g madjool dates, 1 1/2 cups
60g raw cacao powder, 1/2 cup
100g coconut oil, 1/2 cup
Squeeze of date syrup
2 tablespoons of coconut milk

Next make your chocolate topping; simply place all of the ingredients in a blender and blitz well until smooth. Spoon over the flapjack bottom and spread out well. Put the flapjacks back into the fridge to cool for another 1-2 hours.

What's your fav vegan treat?

Eating Healthy | The Season Transition

Eating Healthy | The Season Transition

Its getting colder and portion sizes are getting bigger ... yeah I know your doubling up, I see you. I know it's hard to stay healthy as the season moves into the colder months but it's so easy to plan ahead and make it easier to stay healthy! So today I'm going to give you my top tips on staying healthy and maybe even give you a couple of links to my fav recipes.

Tried anything veggie or vegan? Veggie or Vegan meals are a great way of getting to eat loads of food without half the fat content! You get more volume for less calories.

Try to incorporate water into every day life, like hot drinks? Have one cup of water for evert hot drink you have. And have a glass before you go to bed and right when you wake up. It'll do wonders for your skin, body and mind.

Instead of having highly caffeinated drinks try herbal teas, I personally have a mug of Mint Tea every morning at work to kick start the day and really get my body and mind moving.

Try to incorporate loads of foods that are high in Vitamin D, your body misses out on this essential vitamin in the winter so making sure you get enough through your food is so vital.

Watch your portion sizes. It is very tempting to snack on foods, eat a large plate of food and seconds, when you are indoors all evening.

Include Garlic. Garlic is a great disease fighter as well as adding flavour to meals and food. Garlic will give the most benefit to your immune system when chopped and then left to stand for 10-15 minutes before adding to the pan.

Adding a bit of spice to your food can give you all the warming feeling of eating a higher carb meal but also give you flavour and give your taste buds something different too!

Eat Plenty of Fruit & Vegetables. Top up your immune system by eating antioxidant-containing fruit and vegetables. Choose fruits and vegetables that are in season such as mandarin, apples, grapefruit, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower and potatoes. Make the most of frozen and canned fruits, which are readily available, and cheaper, at this time of year.

The cold weather and long nights can increase the temptation to comfort eat in the winter. Resist the urge but if you are really hungry between meals, try a cup of homemade vegetable soup or a bowl of stewed fruit to fill the gap.

Don’t be afraid of using frozen vegetables – they are sometimes more nutritious than fresh and will last well in the freezer so there’s no waste.

What are your top tips for eating healthy this Autumn Winter?

#MyNakedFace | Loving Your Skin

#MyNakedFace | Loving Your Skin

Today's post is very different, it's to be quite short and very self orientated but it's something that I think everyone should learn to do.

This is my naked skin selfie, this was taken on holiday in Lloret De Mar (Costa Brava, Spain) with not a scrap of make up on just a bit of sun protection (literal bedhead post sea air hair and all) and it's my bravest photo I've ever posted because I'm showing you, the world, me. The real honest true me and all my imperfections and how proud of them I am because they've made me who I am and the person I am, there what make people love me for me.

Looking through all my social media platforms all I see is perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect makeup, and most of the time it's all been either photoshopped or it's tones and tones of makeup which does look incredible but it's not the real you. I've learnt to embrace my naked skin and all the imperfections that come with it so, from today I want YOU to embrace your naked skin and show me the real you. I want YOU to show the world what your made of and how you rock your naked skin.

I want to see the real YOU.

Show me your #MyNakedFace selfie!
